Since this is my first real blog post I thought it would be appropriate to talk about 1st haircuts!!
The most common question we get is when should baby get their 1st haircut? There really isn't a right age but....When strangers are commenting about your precious baby girl and its a boy that's when you know it's time. You can wait longer for girls but if their hair is scraggly and thin a little trim will thicken the hair up so much. The youngest baby we have given their first haircut to was 6 months old. At this age the child will have to sit on Mommy's lap but that isn't a problem for us at all.
We have experienced just about anything you could imagine in the last 2 years with children getting haircuts! Most of the time they are absolutely wonderful but sometimes not so much. We can handle kicking, screaming and we have even cut their hair while playing with the toys in the waiting area. The best advice I can give is to make sure your child is very well rested for their 1st haircut. It is a new experience and if they are tired and cranky it usually doesn't go very well. It's also a great idea to bring them in to play about 15 minutes early so they can play and start feeling at ease in the new environment. It's also a great idea to bring an extra shirt just in case he/she doesn't want to wear a cape, we don't want to force them to wear it.
Kids are not the only ones who cry, this is a very emotional event for a lot of mothers. It seems to me that Mothers of Boys with curly hair seem to have the hardest time. I must admit those little curls are precious!
We do our best to make the 1st haircut a great experience for the whole family, sometimes it is a little more difficult than others but it just comes with the territory. We will save a little lock of hair, take a picture and make a personalized certificate to commemorate this milestone in your childs life.
